A New School: Canyon View Elementary School, Tucson, AZ

Even though Megan and Kayla were only at their new school for 2 1/2 weeks, I think they settled in just fine! Mack and I are so proud of their braveness, willingness to try new things and taking the opportunity to live life as an adventure!

Kayla got to spend the weekend with Jack and Shelly, from her new, 2nd Grade class. Kayla, Jack and Shelly relaxing by the hotel pool.

All the second graders were put into groups. Each group was a business. The students had to create a business and sell their products. They earned pretend money and took turns selling and shopping at eachothers shops.

So, this is at the beginning of the game... Those nice smiles didn't last long. The wind started blowing, rain came and sitting out in the 42' tempeture, with the Rangers stinking...well, needless to say, we didn't last the whole game. But, it was cool to watch part of a game in the new Yankee Stadium!

It's been so cool to say, "Let go to NYC for the weekend or the day!" But now it is time for another adventure!

For Uncle Craig...

Two Easter's ago, Uncle Craig told the kids that if they wanted to dye eggs, they had to try eating a hard boiled egg. Of course Ryan and Kayla said, "OK!" and Rachel and Megan said "no way!" Well, Kayla liked it!!! Now that it's Easter season, Kayla reminded me how much she likes hard boiled eggs. As you can imagine, no one else in the house likes them, so it doesn't even cross my mind to make them, plus --- they REALLY smell!

I have never made hard boiled eggs, so Kayla and I learned together. I read each step and Kayla took action. I didn't think about taking pictures until the eggs were ready to be pealed. Kayla really did each step herself: pan, water, stove, boil, timer, eggs to ice cold water, etc.

"Mmmm," said Kayla! "Smelly," said Mommy! ;0)

So thanks, Uncle Craig, for the memory that Kayla has of enjoying a healthy snack and the reminder to her mean,picky mom that she doesn't introduce and continue making healthy (stinky) food for her children! ;0)

P.S. - If you were wondering...yes, Rachel and Megan did get to dye eggs, but it was a nice try to get them to taste a new food!

A trip to Philadelphia, to watch the Phillies play the Astros, at Citizens Bank Park.

More of a social event (you know...eating, talking, people watching, asking Mack lots of sports related questions and more eating!) for us girls, but fun family time that we all enjoy!

The mommies of Kayla's sweet friends, set up a going-away, surprise brunch for the girls! The brunch was at a precious tea room called, Sweet Memories.

Kayla (Megan, too!) was very surprised! We walked in and all the little voices said, "Surprise!"

Friday Evening Picnic

Kayla has been anxious to get outside and play. It's hard to believe, but we did have a couple days of warmer weather. Kayla had been wanting to go to the park and have a picnic. So on a warm Friday evening, we packed a basket of food and had a picnic dinner at the park.

Megan has enjoyed reading the Mallory books, written by Laurie Friedman.

After visiting her website and getting a new Mallory book for Christmas, Megan decided to write Laurie a letter. Every day, for a couple of months, Megan checked the mail with anticipation...

One day, as Megan came out of the door from the mail room at our apartment complex, she had a beaming smile! This is the day Megan had been waiting for!

Enclosed, Laurie Friedman sent Megan a letter, book marks and an autographed book label to put into one of her Mallory books.

Laurie encouraged Megan to continue reading and writing!

Ice Sledding

Well, I am really bummed! I have been trying to download a video of the girls "ice sledding." They had a really good time! After a lot of snow, we had a day of ice, so the snow was iced over. The girls thought it was fun to be able to slide down the small hill in our "backyard." In these pictures, the girls are actually moving.

Didn't get any still pictures, but they got their sleds out after this and had even more fun! The sleds went so fast on the ice!

An eventful Christmas Eve for the Good's:
It started off with me working at Kohl's.
Then we went to Texas Roadhouse for dinner.
While waiting to go to the 9 pm church service, Megan lost her tooth.
Christmas Day we found out that cousin Rachel lost her tooth on
Christmas Eve too!
The Tooth Fairy and Santa had a busy night!

Megan was an Acolyte for the 9 pm Christmas Eve service.
It's a tradition to let the girls open one present on Christmas Eve. I wonder what it could be...

Well, last year we let the girls open presents from extended family and of course they begged us to let them do that again this year.

Fogelsville Winter Concert

Among other musicians, Megan and two of her flute friends were chosen to play in the Winter Concert at their old school (Fogelsville). With the new school (Jaindl)opening this school year,the size of the band and orchestra at Fogelsville dwindled. Students with good grades, conduct, practice habits and class time, were chosen to play with the Fogelsville band and orchestra. We are proud of our little flutist!

Kayla, Megan, Caitlyn and I got dressed up and had lunch at the Olive Garden before heading to the ballet.

This was a fun trip for the girls and for me as well. As a child I used to get dressed up each Christmas season, go out to eat and then off to the Nutcracker ballet with my mom and sister.

Jaindl Winter Concert

Megan joined the 5th grade Chorus this year and continues to play the flute. Jaindl's 5th Grade Chorus and Band held a Winter Concert.

Megan was a speaker during the concert.

Megan played in the band and sang in the chorus. During one of the chorus songs, Megan and two of her fellow flute players were chosen to play their instruments while the others sang.

One of Megan's friends called and asked her to go to the mall (with a parent - of course!). It was so cute when she asked me, "Can I go to the mall with my friends on Saturday?" I was excited for her. It's fun seeing her grow up and doing girly stuff. Then a few seconds later, I thought, 'I can't have a daughter that's old enough to want to be going to the mall with her friends.' Well, she did get to go. She had lots of fun hanging out, shopping and having dinner with her friends!

We enjoyed a trip to Bushkill Falls, also known as, The "Niagara of Pennsylvania." Located in the Pocono Mountains.

It was fun hiking and walking along the bridges as we saw the falls.

We had a fabulous time on the other side of the state. The girls and I drove 6 hours from the Southeast side of the state to the Northwest side. It was great seeing Grandma Moosman, Uncle Joey, Aunt Anne and Mrs. Franklin! The girls had fun at the Park! A great trip to one of the Great Lakes - Erie, just beautiful! Fun out on Lake Conneaut and just enjoyed hanging out with family and friends!

Megan enjoyed her first Band Camp! The last day of camp, family and friends were invited to a concert to see what all the students had learned and accomplished throughout the week. Megan wanted to do something different with her hair. It's hard to get her hair to stay curly, so we thought we'd try something new - sleeping in lots of little twists. Umm, not so sure how this is turning out. RATS NEST!!! Needless to say we washed Megs hair and she wore it like aways. Meg was a great sport! Megan took a composition class during camp. This is the piece she composed - Happy Monkey!

Kayla had fun at Kelly Camp last week! One of Kayla's teachers has a daughter that holds a camp for the girls in the summer. Kayla had a girly-girl time with friends all week long!

Well, it's hard to believe that we've lived in Pennsylvania a whole year now! We are thankful for the many opportunities we have had this past year, here in the Northeast. It has been wonderful to experience new places, people, food, different climate, terrain, spend time with and build on family relationships, learn some history and of course we have enjoyed our special visitors - our parents!

We look forward to another year of adventures here in PA!

Megan's 10th Birthday

Well, it's official...Megan's 10th birthday celebration is over. She has been celebrating for almost a whole month! I don't remember getting to celebrate my birthday this much when I was little!!! :)

On a birthday side note - Yesterday morning, Megan was telling Kayla and I that in 6 years she would be driving, but driving with an adult in 5! Wow, if these next 5 years go by as fast as the last 10 have ------ watch the roads!!! Time cruses along too fast...thank you God for our sweet Megan Elizabeth Good!

Thanks for all the birthday fun! Megan had a wonderful time PLANNING and celebrating!

Home, Home on the Range...a.k.a. Texas

Well, we had "a hog-killin' time" in Texas! We "made hay while the sun shined," getting by all our folks ranches. I told the gals to "rattle your hocks" or we wouldn't git it all in. It was a "tear squeezer" when we had to leave, but it was great gettin back to our "velvet couch" yere in PA.

Memorial Day Weekend Activities

We hope everyone had a relaxing Memorial Day weekend!

We kicked off our weekend with our one and only

"Betsy Ross!"

Kayla was picked to be Betsy Ross out of her class.

The first graders paraded around the school in honor of Memorial Day Weekend.

Kayla, I mean Betsy, rode in the wagon and waved to all the Fogelsville students and teachers. Look at what a nice flag she is making!
I didn't get pictures, but the girls enjoyed time at our apartment pool on Sunday and Monday.
"Betsy" was hungry for hot dogs, so we grilled some dogs on Monday!
It was nice having a long weekend - thanks vets!

I have been wanting to take

the Wilton Cake Decorating class at Michael's, so I finally did!

Turn your head to the left to look at this picture.

I tried five times to get this picture going in the right direction

and I couldn't figure it out,

so you just have to look at my first decorated cake with a head tilt! :)

I have lots of practice to do on my roses, but it was a fun start!

My last cake, in honor of my mom,

who came up to PA to help out for a couple of weeks.

yes - I did graduate from my cake decorating class! :)

Back to work!

I wanted something to do while the girls were in school, so I got a part-time job at Kohl's!

I am three weeks into it. It's fun so far. I like getting out of the house and talking with people. The discount is fun too! So far I have only worked days and weekends. Tonight I work, so we'll see how I like working nights and weekends after a while. :) It's worth a try!

Mack had the HONOR and PRIVILEGE of meeting the Vice President of the United States!

Joe Biden came to Bethlehem to speak about the federal stimulus money used to expand the Ben Franklin Technology Center (the building Mack works in, on the Lehigh University campus).

Speaking - the Mayor of Bethlehem.

Mark Granahan on the right - the guy who started Ciclon (the company that was bought by TI).

Mack was amazed by all the security:

Secret Service, armed men in camouflage, guards on the roof of the building, helicopters.

Mack was told to unfold his arms by a Secret Service man.

A few minutes later, he was asked to get his hands out of his pocket, by another.

Mack, a person of interest?

Mack was so moved by Biden's speech, he is considering changing parties! :)
Yeah right!
Well, at least he can say he shook the hand of a Vice President, even if it was Joe Biden!

1st Grade Job Fair

The first graders chose what they wanted to be when they grow up.

They sang and danced to some cute songs, like "9 to 5!"

Each of the kids presented what their job was and some of the responsibilities it came with.

Bear Creek is 7 miles from the house,

so it was cool to pack up the car and be at the slopes in 15 minutes!
